More About Unionville & the Surrounding Areas

If this your 1st trip to Canada (or simply the Unionville & Greater Markham area), get ready for something special! Outside of the festival, there is much to see & do, we hope you spend a few extra days in town or squeeze more into your trip if you can manage!

In case you’re looking for extra things to do, here’s a list we’ve cultivated from some of the locals.

Toronto, a city the locals like to say reminds them of a combination or NYC & Chicago, is a 35 minute “GO" bus ride to the local Union Station and most of the places named below are an easy walk or subway ride away!

In the Toronto area you can enjoy St. Lawrence Market, the Distillery District, The Eaton Centre, Toronto Islands, Harbourfront, Art Gallery of Ontario, Ripley's Aquarium, CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum and Yorkville for world class shopping. In the month of October, Cirque de Soleil is presenting Come From Area in Toronto’s theatre district.

Also, while you’re in the Toronto area keep in mind, in and outside of Markham there are world renowned restaurants and a diverse food culture to explore, as well as a variety of sporting teams including hockey, soccer, football, basketball & lacrosse.

Closer to the festival, in the Markham area & York Region you can visit the Markham Fair (happening during GGFF), Downtown Markham Carousel, Flato Markham Theatre (see the ballet of Anne of Green Gables that weekend), Varley Art Gallery & McMichael Gallery or take a stroll through the Pacific Mall.

Here is the York Region tourism link if you want to do some of your own exploring too, http://www.experienceyorkregion.com/.
